Regional magazine jumps at opportunity to support Birmingham, Coventry & Warwickshire Sports Awards

Following the recent announcement of the finalists for the upcoming Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire Sports Awards, people across the West Midlands are gearing up for the event of the year.  

Thursday 24 October will see hundreds attend the occasion at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Among them will be the array of sponsors including Inspirational Warwickshire & Birmingham who have confirmed their support.

“These awards are an inspiring showcase of all the shining stars the West Midlands has either birthed or nurtured in recent times,” said Sophia Hayes Editor in Chief at the magazine who shared more about the publication’s decision to sponsor the event.

“Olympians, Premiership football teams, World Cup winning cricketers – as a nation we never shy away from praising sportspeople competing at the top of their game. And, rightly so.

“But the Birmingham Coventry and Warwickshire Sports Awards do something special in that they pull out the overlooked members of the sporting community and give them the chance to have their equally deserved moment in the spotlight.

“And it is for that reason that we were so keen to be involved this year and sponsor the event.”

The West Midlands’ leading lifestyle publication, which boasts a readership of 85,000 across the region, is the official sponsor of the Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award.

One of the 13 incredible awards categories that will be presented on the night, this one celebrates 11-18-year olds who compete as an amateur in any sport and recognises the incredible achievements they have had over the past 12 months.

Birchfield Harriers athlete Cassie-Ann Pemberton, boxer on the up Elise Jacqueline Glynn and Niall Gilligan who is a 1st Dan Black Belt in Karate are the chosen trio shortlisted for this category.

Speaking more about this category, Sophia noted how the finalists of this award represent something even more crucial in today’s society.

“Our children are living and growing up in the digital age where they are constantly surrounded by the latest technology,” she said.

“Physical activity is on the decline and staying indoors is on the up. The young people nominated within this category are going against this trend choosing instead to channel their spare time into engaging in sport – and succeeding at a fantastic level.

“These young stars should be seen as icons of their generation for living healthy, active lifestyles and we are thrilled to help spread this important message through our sponsorship too.”
